Environment

GroupWise Monitoring and Reporting (Redline) 4
Linux and Windows

Situation

A Redline agent may need to be removed, because the GroupWise agents no longer are being monitored, or a troubleshooting step for anything that is going wrong with the agents themselves.

How do you remove a Redline agent?

Resolution

Note: Make a copy of the Redline agent conf before removing the agent in case the agent needs to be restored.

To remove a Redline agent follow these steps:

  1. Stop the Redline agent on the server that is being removed.  (Linux: rcrlagent stop) (Windows: Stop the service)
  2. Go to /opt/beginfinite/redline/conf (Windows: C:\Program Files\beginfinite\redline\conf). Rename the rlagent.conf file. This is to ensure that if the redline agent starts up again, it won't re-register the agent and put it back into the control center.
  3. Log into the Control Center. Click on System View | Redline Maps. Find the Redline agent you want to remove.
  4. It is highly recommended to remove the GroupWise agents that the Redline agent is monitoring. To do that, go to each of the agents, including the host, click on Manage and remove the agents. The reason for this is if the Redline agent re-registers, and it begins to report and monitor the GroupWise agents with the same name, there will be a conflict and errors will occur.
  5. Once all of the GroupWise agents are removed, click on the Redline agent to be removed.
  6. Click on Settings.
  7. At the bottom of this page click the button: Remove Agent.
This will remove the agent, but it is still installed in case it needs to be brought back for any reason.
To completely remove the entire Redline agent from the Linux or Windows box:
Linux: In a terminal prompt type: rpm -e redline-4.1.0-1
Windows:  Go to Programs and Features/Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the Redline agent

Then remove any directories of Redline. The uninstall will remove any conf files. The rlagent.conf file will need to be recreated if the Redline agent is reinstalled to be able to reconnect to the Control Center.
