Resolution

To configure the Exchange system and allow Retain to connect with Exchange,  Retain requires four items installed:

  • PowerShell 2.0
  • Office 365 PowerShell Commandlets (cmdlets)
  • Microsoft Online Services Sign-In Assistant
  • WIndows Azure Active Directory Module for Windows PowerShell  (Renamed from
Microsoft Online Services Module for Windows PowerShell)

Install PowerShell 2.0The appropriate version for the Windows system can be found here:
http://www.microsoft.com/powershell

Note: For Windows 7 and 2008 R2 and higher, PowerShell 2.0 is already installed automatically. Even if the program lists the name as PowerShell 1.0, it is actually 2.0

Install the Commandlets (cmdlets)
The Commandlets (cmdlets) can be found on the
Microsoft Azure Active Directory PowerShell Module Version Release History
Locate and install the correct version for your environment. Install these modules in this order:

1) Microsoft Online Services Sign-In Assistant for IT Professionals RTW

2) Azure Active Directory Module for Windows PowerShell (64-bit version)
Requires Microsoft .NET Framework 3.51 enabled on your computer.

Install / Execute them both in above order. (Online Services Sign-in Assistant first, then The Windows Azure Active Directory Module.)

Once installation is complete, you are able to run the sync365.ps1 PowerShell script, and can continue
